Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator (Midwest ISO)
The Midwest ISO is responsible for the electric transmission system spanning 15 states and parts of Canada. Its member utilities have more than 84,000 megawatts of generating capacity and 70,000 miles of bulk power transmission lines. The Midwest ISO's purpose is to provide non-discriminatory open access to the transmission systems of its member transmission owners, maintain and improve system reliability and security as the Security Coordinator for the area, facilitate coordinated transmission planning, increase generation competition, and function as the Regional Transmission Operator. The Midwest ISO's employees work toward the goal captured in our vision - to be recognized as a North American leader in providing bulk power transmission services.
