National Grid USA
National Grid USA's core business is the transmission and distribution of electricity. The company also has subsidiaries engaged in natural gas distribution; construction and leasing of telecommunications infrastructure; and energy-related consulting. National Grid USA is a subsidiary of National Grid Transco, an international energy delivery business with principal activities in the regulated electric and gas industries. Our U.S. subsidiaries provide low-cost, reliable electricity delivery and responsive customer service to approximately 3.2 million residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers in upstate New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire. Our subsidiaries own and operate approximately 84,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines in New England and New York. Our power lines are available to all power suppliers who participate in the region's developing competitive energy market. The National Grid USA family of companies includes five electricity distribution companies: Niagara Mohawk, Massachusetts Electric, Narragansett Electric, Granite State Electric, and Nantucket Electric. The distribution companies operate and maintain distribution power lines and substations; provide metering, billing, and customer services; design and build distribution-related facilities; and provide related products and services including energy efficiency programs for customers. In addition, Niagara Mohawk provides natural gas delivery to roughly 540,000 customers in upstate New York.
